Letter to the Editor: Vote yes — 3 is enough
RESEARCH. Lawsuits were filed in 2022 against Tama County to stop Wind Turbines even though signed Contracts were already in place. Tama County Against Turbines circulated a Petition to go to 5 Supervisors with hopes more would be better for them. The Petition was filed August 15, 2022 by Linda Moeller of Buckingham and was on the ballot November 8, 2022 and passed. Nancy Yuska was a huge supporter and is known to be a strong TCAT member.
AGENDA. Heather Knebel filed nomination papers to run for County Supervisor March 2024. Agenda is an important word. If a person runs for an office with an agenda, it never seems to be a good thing for taxpayers. A person with an agenda hopes to be elected to push a specific outcome or for a self-serving goal. It is clear; her agenda was to stop Wind Turbines.
RESEARCH. Any of this lawsuit info can be obtained online via iowacourts.state.ia.us A lawsuit was filed April 20, 2023 which was dismissed October 16, 2024 prior to the 2024 election. November 26, 2024, a new lawsuit was filed Bev Espensheid v Tama County Board of Adjustment. Bev Espensheid is associated with TCAT. Lawsuits had been filed by Richard Arp, Jon Winkelpleck, Heather Knebel, Janet Wilson, Beverly Espensheid and Kathy Harkema, Tama County Against Turbines. To protect their investment, Salt Creek Wind, LLC ultimately filed their own lawsuit.
Tama County taxpayers want to know how much of their tax dollars went towards legal fees. RESEARCH. Records were obtained from the Tama County Auditor which as mentioned, anyone can request public records. From 2018 through 2021, legal fees were paid out in the amount of $11,000. Beginning July 2022 to December 2022, legal fees were approx. $43,000 and then that amount changed drastically. From January 1, 2023 to September 30, 2026 the legal expense grew to over $450,000. Of those fees paid by Tama County taxpayers, a very small amount was for other matters other than wind turbines. I bring back that word AGENDA and a question: Is TCAT running our County with your tax dollars? Please do your own research. Do you want your tax dollars to go towards personal agendas? VOTE YES – 3 is ENOUGH.
