Urges Yes Vote on South Tama Revenue Purpose Statement

To the Editor:

On April 5th voters in the South Tama School district will be asked to extend STC’s Revenue Purpose Statement. This vote will allow STC to maintain local control over usage of the Iowa 1 cent sales tax dedicated for schools and be in agreement with current legislation. In the past STC has used the money generated by the $0.01 cent sales tax for many different items including: to pay down the debt levy on the Elementary school, update building security, purchase new buses, replace the high school boiler, and make roof repairs.

This vote will NOT raise taxes, This vote will NOT increase the $0.1 sales tax. The state legislature sets the sales tax rate. This vote allows STC to maintain local control over what and how the money is spent.

I encourage everyone to vote YES and support STC in maintaining LOCAL control over how the current $0.01 sales tax revenue is spent.
