Appreciates Lopez’ role in Career Academy
Dear Editor,
Every year at the start of a new academic year the Iowa Valley Community College District presents a program that sets the tone for academic and all-staff perspective to ensure a comprehensive and quality educational experience for all students. Faculty and staff at both Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College, and the Grinnell Center are recognized for their achievements.
I am so proud to say that our South Tama High School Guidance Counselor, Dan Lopez, was recognized as Ambassador of the Year. He has done a remarkable job promoting Marshalltown Community College to our South Tama high school students.
The number of students from STC to MCC has steadily increased in both dual credit college coursework as well as the Career Academy programs. STC students in MCC’s Career Academy programs exceed all other high schools in the IVCC District.
What this means is that our STC students have the opportunity to receive a broad-based education designed to meet the needs of the students.
What this means is that some students are prepared for the world of work immediately after high school graduation. What this means is that other STC students are academically well-prepared to continue to a four year college after MCC / ECC. What this means that families have saved thousands of dollars for our students to complete their BA/BS degrees when MCC is chosen for dual enrollment. And finally, what this means is that area businesses reap the benefit of educated/trained people who choose to remain in our community.
Thank you, Dan Lopez!
