What happened to the Doggy in the Window?
Dear Editor,
I’m talking about the Doggy in the window with bars on it not the song. I’ll bet you did not know that Iowa has the 2nd number of puppy mills in the nation! Iowa is home to 200 commercial dog breeding kennels (aka puppy mills)!
Thousands of dogs are currently sitting in small, cramped, wire-bottomed cages. Many without protection from the winter’s bitter cold and many are in total darkness. At least 47% of Iowa’s 220+USDA large-scale dog breeding facilities were cited for violations in 2014 and 18% were serious violations!
Was there any changes done to protect the dogs or improve their living conditions? Go to a puppy mill near you and ask to see all their housing for the dogs and see for yourself the terrible conditions they live in.
You can do something about this! Legislation is looking at changing the laws that will provide additional protection for the 15,000 adult dogs in Iowa’s USDA kennels. Contact your state legislator and ask them to support this important, commonsense legislation.
Do it now, the dogs need this right away. Iowa can do better than this. Dog are always giving their all to us unconditionally. We need to help them out we are their voice. Let your voice be heard now.
Sincerely,
Jeannie Sieck
