Says Braley right on jobs

Letter to the Editor:

Under President Reagan, we had trickledown economics. The thinking was that when the wealthy became wealthier, we would all do well. However, that economic theory didn’t work as there was no trickle. Today our Republican friends have the same theory under a new guise. The idea is that if we reduce taxes and regulations on the corporate folks then the people at the top – the job creators – will be free to hire more people and our economy will flourish. The problem with this theory is much the same as it was under President Reagan. The job creators are those CEO’s whose first and foremost job is to show more and more profit. The way they have done this is by downsizing – having one person do the job of two or three thus cutting cost or by sending jobs overseas or outsourcing to countries where workers are paid a pittance.

Therefore, to be honest, those “job creators” are actually “job eliminators.”

So when Bruce Braley supports taxing companies who send their jobs overseas, it’s a good idea. When Mrs. Ernst would allow these companies to continue to outsource with no impunity, it is an economic theory that hasn’t worked before and is causing problems now as we watch our jobs disappear.
