Letter to the Editor:

One of the headlines in the January 19 edition of The Toledo Chronicle stated that the STC Middle School was among 35 schools in Iowa that was “low achieving”. Two days later, the January 21st edition of The Tama New-Herald’s lead headline stated that “South Tama sees 29 resignations”.

These two headlines might communicate the message that one has something to do with the other. This is simply not true. The 29 staff members who chose to retire were required to submit their intentions to Supt. Kerri Nelson before January 1st. This was almost two weeks prior to the notice from the Department of Education regarding the proficiency status of the middle school.

The intent of my letter is to clarify any misperceptions that may have occurred. The two events are not related.
