Tama EMS needs volunteers: This week’s Tama City Council meeting

This week’s Tama City Council meeting was 90% EMS as they discussed the ins and outs of many of the issues. However, before they could get to EMS the subject of a nuisance property came up, which has seen some improvement, but not enough. The council approved going back to the lawyer to advise them how to move forward.

The first subject when it came to EMS was possibly contracting with IAM Responding. This is a notification and GPS app that helps with calls and communicating with dispatch. This app has reportedly better GPS than their previously used app, and comes with a wide range of other features as well.

Council member Kristy Eisentrager wondered if it was worth the cost, but multiple people talked highly of the app including multiple citizens in the audience that use the app for other services. The council approved EMS to purchase the app with money from the trust.

Up next was the purchase of Image Trend Elite, a service that would help EMS staff with reports, save time, and cut down on errors. After a discussion, it was approved that EMS may purchase Image Trend Elite with money from the trust.

Another EMS related agenda item dealt with equipment that came off of the now out-of-service 240 ambulance unit. What to do with all of the specific items was discussed at length, especially the retention of the Lucas device. In the end it was approved they donate the manual cot to Iowa Valley and to take the power cot off the Stryker contract.

The council approved the increase of PCC fees for a possibility of collecting more from insurance. It was approved to purchase sand for the water plant.

As the sewer department currently has a near ancient computer it was approved to purchase new, which is budgeted. The Snyder agreement for the pedestrian crossing was approved.

The council approved changing the regular meeting time from 5:30 to 5 on the dot.

There was not much for council updates, as council member Elaina Rivera Martinez stated everything was “good in the hood.” The fire department reported that they will be hosting pictures with Santa on the 22nd, as well as having other holiday activities throughout the season.

The clerk reported on how the new deputy clerk is coming along. Mayor Danny Robinson talked about an upcoming holiday competition with the mayor on the 21st where the loser will get a pie to the face.

Dan Quigley, the chief of the Tama-Toledo Police Department reported having 292 calls from the city of Tama in October. He also talked about stopping some mini dirt bikers on Halloween and breaking up an underage drinking party over the weekend. EMS reported needing volunteers.
