This week’s Tama City Council meeting started with a simple lien waiver for 703 Beautiful Street. With the newest Council member, Elaina Martinez, on hand to translate, the transaction went by seamlessly with relative speed.

Up next, the Oakhill Cemetery Association gave a presentation on improvements they wish to do. After giving details on the various projects, the council granted the association permission to move forward.

They approved using parking permits for residents in Tama that will be affected by the culvert project. The council discussed options on how to proceed with the Miron Library Project. After weighing their options, they decided to go with the option of adding flashing up to the roof windows.

Once again, the Lincoln Highway Bridge was on the agenda, and it was approved by the council for up to $10,000 or the remaining approximately $40,000 of bridge money would be utilized to get an engineer to look at the bridge.

The council accepted the resignation of Deputy Clerk Sierra Berger. They went on to approve a new description of the position and advertise to hire for the position.

The council discussed event pay regarding Tama EMS. After some thinking, they decided that when Tama EMS covers paid for motocross events, the city will be paid, and then 40% will go to the EMS association.

Remaining on the topic of EMS, the council considered the possibilities of truck 240. Ultimately, it was decided they approved selling ol’ 240 and having the truck committee see what they come up with for other options.

EMS was also approved to have members attend the IEMSA Conference.

The water plant was on the agenda for a curious reason. As talks of merging the Tama and Toledo Police Department further, questions swirled as to whether the water plant will be next. The council made their feelings on the issue clear as they stated emphatically that this was not on their to-do list.

Mayor Danny Robinson made a statement in jest, saying, “We want clean water; they can keep their stank a** water.”

The council approved the public works department’s purchase of a Land Plane for $2,000.

The Police Department reported that they have a couple of applicants who are going through testing and interviews. The Durango of the fleet is continuing to have problems.

The EMS department reported the fix to 242 and the estimated cost to fix Medic 1. They are also starting an EMT class and are going to do trainings.
