TOLEDO – The Tama County Historical Society will host a program on the USS Honolulu during World War II on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wieting Theatre, 101 S. Church St, Toledo. This event is free and open to the public.

Don Paustian presents a fascinating program on the USS Honolulu (CL-48) and its service during World War II. Commissioned in 1938, this Brooklyn-class light cruiser saw extensive action in the Pacific Theater, including major engagements in the Aleutian and Solomon Islands campaigns. Despite being torpedoed during battle, the ship survived and returned to service, earning multiple battle stars for her wartime efforts.

Don’s father, Louis Paustian, served aboard the Honolulu, adding a personal dimension to this historical presentation. Through research and family stories, Don honors the courage and resilience of the sailors who served their country at sea during one of history’s most challenging conflicts.
