Barely a quorum: This week’s Toledo City Council Meeting
This week’s Toledo City Council meeting barely had a quorum as only council members Cook, Vesley, and Boll were present. Mayor Pro Tem Boll led the meeting and slid through the meeting with ease, bouncing off agenda items as they came.
The meeting kicked off with Alex Martinez, who discussed with the council the use of the Toledo Heights fields for a youth soccer league. First Touch Academy is the new soccer league, and it has a season lasting from September to November. After some logistics were worked out, the soccer league was approved by the council to use the field.
The council approved a letter of support to Toledo Ventures LLC for them to apply for the IEDA Grayfield Tax credits. An old air conditioner in the Reinig Center that is on its last leg is in need of replacement. The council approved accepting bids to replace the machinery.
A slew of resolutions were approved. The first resolution approved the transfer of funds to pay for outstanding and upcoming obligations in FY27. The second resolution approved annually designating official posting locations for Toledo public notices. The last resolution approved the FY26 Street Finance Report and for it to be submitted to the Iowa DOT.
The public works department reported the fireworks went off without a hitch for the Fourth of July, but many hours of work went into it. They are in the process of repairing multiple items, including a storm sewer and a parking lot. The city clerk reported working on reports, and the city attorney reported on all the updates dealing with the nuisance issues.
Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between June 22 and July 12, the department responded to 228 calls and made two arrests.
