Fairies, pirates, flight, mayhem, and delight; another classic tale is being told by the South Tama Thespians. Peter Pan and Wendy by Lauren Gunderson, based on the original story by J.M. Barrie, is the play that the South Tama High School is putting on this year.
Dixie Forcht, STC High School’s theater director, started her summer like she always does, with a big pile of plays to go through. This year, the decision of which production to mount was easy, as Dixie said, “Peter Pan and Wendy was at the top of the stack, and I knew, when I read it, that it was perfect for us. So, I stopped reading, acquired the rights, and held auditions right away.”
One of the many reasons the magical tale is so well-suited for STC is the giant cast it requires. Forty students from the district, from 5th grade all the way up to senior, are able to participate in the production.
All have worked tirelessly to put this show together. The first week of school rehearsals started, and they’ve been going strong ever since. Two to three hours three times a week, since the beginning of the year, this team has worked to make sure the best version of the play was put on.
So, if you like the theater, Peter Pan, or just want to be whisked away by the magic for a while, go see Peter Pan and Wendy. The play will be shown at the Wieting Theater Nov. 6 through the 8th at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 pm.
