Sourdough Workshop planned on May 29

TOLEDO — Learn all the basics of baking with a sourdough starter at a Sourdough Workshop at 6 p.m. on May 29. The workshop will be offered at the Tama County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office in Toledo. Holly Van Heel, a human sciences educator with ISU Extension and Outreach, will lead the workshop.
During the hands-on workshop, participants will:
• Learn about maintaining and using a sourdough starter.
• Take Home Your Own Starter to continue the sourdough baking experience at home
• Mix, Stretch and Fold a Mini Loaf; learning the essential techniques for creating the perfect loaf of bread and taking home a mini loaf to ferment and bake.
• Taste and Explore – sample a batch of fermented focaccia and discover the use of sourdough discard and an active starter.
“This fun, hands-on pilot workshop will help bakers interested in learning about baking with a sourdough starter understand the unique aspects of using the starter to leaven baked products.” Space is limited so register early.
Participants can register for the workshop at go.iastate.edu/UT9SGU.
