STC Awarded Girls Wrestling state qualifying tournament

News & notes from STC school board

At Monday’s board meeting, STC Activity Director Chelsea Ahrens announced that the district had applied and been selected to host a 2A girls wrestling state qualifier. The event will take place on Friday, Jan. 21, 2025, with details still being worked out.

Ahrens shed some light on the undertaking of this huge event and suggested an early out or rescheduling that Friday as a professional development day to have adequate space for an estimated crowd of 400-700 girls wrestling fans from 8 different schools.

STC Superintendent John Cain spoke highly of the announcement.

“This is a huge honor. We will look at this internally and work around it. A great opportunity for our district and our girls wrestling team,” Cain said.

A group of community members has come forward with interest in converting the tennis courts at the current STC Middle School into new pickleball courts and mini-pitch soccer. Still in the beginning phases with the proposed project, the group has strong interest and financial backing. They also aim to look for grants and partner with the school district in the endeavor.

Cain shared the idea of adding this onto the new middle school site but expressed that he’s open to any and all options. Cain had a meeting scheduled for Thursday to further the conversations.

Middle School Principal Ben Adams received approval to sell STCMS t-shirts as a fundraiser for the middle school. Showcasing a few different designs, the support from the board was overwhelming.

The STC School Board earned a Board Award from IASB once again, continuing their work for the district. The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 9.
