City of Toledo dinged for ‘monitoring violation’ of water testing schedule

Not long after the city of Tama shared a PFOS or “forever chemicals” health advisory for its drinking water supply, the city of Toledo has reported receiving a monitoring violation of the water testing schedule, but as Public Works Director Kendall Jordan explained, it simply means that one sample to be tested for Manganese didn’t get where it needed to go in time.

“Our normal lab we submit to is Keystone Labs, and then we in turn report to the state. And it just didn’t get to Keystone Labs,” Jordan said. “All our internal tests were still run just like normal and everything was coming back good. It just didn’t go to a certified lab.”

The public notification indicated there is nothing further residents or the city need to do at this point, as Jordan noted the mistake has been corrected and submitted for testing. He also reported that the water department is in the process of cleaning the city’s wells to increase the flow but isn’t looking at any substantial water infrastructure improvements at the present time.
