TOLEDO – This week’s County Supervisor’s meeting started with idle chit-chat and ended with a lively spat. The meeting, as usual, included the Engineer’s report, which stated that they are currently working on removing a snow trap on 250th Street. The Toledo Deer Creek bridge is nearing completion, with the guard rails to be put in next.

Tama County HR Manager Tammy Wise came in to talk about the Employee Assisted Program (EAP) Agreement. The rates per employee have been reduced from $1.70 to $1.50.

The Supervisor’s approved removing the suspension of taxes of Llana Bennett.

Also approved was the Weed Commissioner’s report and certification form.

Dates and times were set for the 1st and 2nd tier election canvases: Nov. 14 and 21st at 8:30 a.m.

The Supervisor’s reappointed Kurt Kelley to the Board of Adjustment.

The possibility of appointing Nancy Yuska to the Board of Adjustment led to a heated back and forth amongst the supervisors. Yuska, who the Supervisors agreed is a knowledgeable woman and the only citizen to apply for the position, remains the subject of debate due to her negative views regarding turbines. After a lively debate, it was agreed upon to put the subject of Nancy Yuska’s possible appointment to the Board of Adjustment on next week’s agenda.

Claims totaling $101,868.08 were approved.
