Four temporary liquor licenses were approved at the Toledo City Council meeting on Monday just ahead of RAGBRAI. Class C Retail Alcohol Licenses were issued to Mike’s Pizza, Tama-Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce Inc., Kid’s Corner Daycare, and the Flaming Office.

The council is moving forward with the property transfer of the former Iowa Juvenile Home property to the South Tama County school district.

The council scheduled a work session for next Monday to iron out details of the Woodlawn Housing Addition.

The topic of a School Resource Officer was on the agenda, with further discussions on splitting the officer’s funding. Toledo is likely to be the lead city, technically making the SRO a Toledo police officer. There is currently a lead candidate for the position that is undergoing standard background checks.

The Public Works department reported that they are painting lines and fixing hydrants as well as getting the town ready for RAGBRAI. The department will be helping with RAGBRAI in a multitude of ways, including traffic control.

Toledo City Attorney Mike Marquess spoke about the possibility of throwing his hat into the ring to be the Tama City Attorney as well. Marquess has been helping out Tama since their previous attorney, Rathje, retired.

Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between July 10 and July 23, they responded to 234 calls, making 13 arrests and two juvenile referrals. Officer Ryan is now out on his own, covering the night shift.

After receiving three applications for the open position in the Toledo Police Department, the department will stop receiving applications. The department also completed its annual firearms requirements, and the new Motorola dash cams arrived.

Deputy City Clerk Kaiyla Wacha recently attended clerk school. The city clerk is working on dotting all the i’s for the Juvenile Home project.
