Birkwood Village of Toledo auctioned off our three baby chicks to a family in the community that will take good care of them. We want to give to the community for the first time! Right now, we are hatching duck eggs and will proceed by hatching another batch of chicken eggs!

Tenants will enjoy active living in one of the most desirable areas in our small town amid an abundance of restaurants, and population attractions including the Wieting Theatre and Opera House, Meskwaki Casino, Otter Creek Lake, Double D Rodeo, or fun activities downtown.

It would add excitement to their daily activities, promote health and wellness, and reduce loneliness. The chickens give them a chance to further explore their creativity and to spend some time outdoors with the chickens having fun, feeding them, collecting the eggs, maintaining their coops, and generally looking after them.

Birkwood Village works with individuals with dementia, reducing the agitation as well as the use of antipsychotic medications by brightening their days with animal therapy! We encourage our tenants to get involved with activities, and attend/volunteer within the community, community events, and ultimately be happy!
