Supervisors approve purchase of brand new bench

At the May 22nd Tama County Supervisors meeting, a new bench for the courthouse lawn was approved. The bench will be granite and in honor of the Toledo Public School.

Toledo Public School classes of 1958-1962 are paying for the new bench. The exact location on the courthouse lawn is yet to be determined.

Katherine Ollendieck with Tama County Economic Development attended to talk about the one-day ordinance needed for RAGBRAI. Public hearings to talk about the ordinance were set for June 12, 19, and 26.

A request to use the Courthouse lawn for bible readings from June 26-30 and July 7 at 7 a.m. was approved.

The drainage district assessment value was set and approved.

The county engineer reported that the Deer Creek bridge on the west end of Toledo has had most of its decks removed and this week beams will start to be removed. Four 10 hour summer days will start June 5. The engineer is currently advertising for two positions including an assistant engineer. Blades are done prepping most areas, and Central Iowa will soon start dust control.

Next week’s meeting was moved to Tuesday, May 30, due to Memorial Day. Claims totaling $253,919.96 were approved.
