The Toledo council started out their May 8 meeting with an update from Alliant Energy about fiber optic lines. They then went and approved putting a temporary US Cellular tower behind the old city shop between July 10 and Aug. 4 for the influx of cellular activity during RAGBRAI.

A pay request was approved in the amount of $159,916.16 to Dave Schmitt Construction for the Woodlawn project.

It was approved for the Toledo Police Department to post for the open position of a patrol officer. The Toledo Police Department was also approved to keep their 2016 Ford Taurus in their fleet as a backup vehicle for as long as it will run. Once this Taurus stops kicking, it will be retired.

May 22 was approved for a public hearing for the FY23 budget amendment.

It was approved to continue to have Brass Summer Meters but to increase the size of the deposit.

Public Works Director Kendall Jordan reported that they are making small patches in the street and that they are almost done at the Juvenile Home. The public works department has started work on a crosswalk going in at Broadway and Highway 30 as well as doing repairs out at the park.

Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between April 24 and May 7, they responded to 123 calls for service with nine arrests and one search warrant execution. The new Tahoe is supposed to be ready this week.

The new dash and body cams should be operational in June, and they will cost $64,000. Officer Ryan has finished his first two weeks of field training with Lt. Wunn. The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau finished their audit and awarded the Toledo police department $15,000 in grants for traffic enforcement overtime for next year. They are also still in the process of updating the policy manual.
