A staple of the Tama-Toledo community for years gone by and years to come is the Wieting Theatre. During the week of April 10, the theater had a little bit of something for everyone.

On Wednesday, April 12, the Tama County Historical Society put on a presentation “Stories of Famous and Not-So-Famous Iowans” presented by Jeff Stein. On Thursday, April 13, Iowa’s Storyteller Darcy Doughtery Maulsby, presented “Explore Iowa’s Lost History on the Titanic.”

Both free events tracked this lineage of Iowans and gave history a close to home sense of importance.

On the following Friday and Sunday, the theatre showed the new “Super Mario Brothers Movie.” This selection has been a fun film for the whole family and a wild success for the Wieting, drawing in over a hundred moviegoers a night with some of the highest admission seen since pre-pandemic times for the Wieting’s movie showings.

Saturday, the Basement Band provided a free concert open to all to coincide with a chicken pasta bank fundraiser dinner. The band is comprised of members ranging in ages from 22-72. The fundraiser was worked by Michelle Evans, Leanne Clemann, Lori Baier and Marie Mann.

Sunday, the STC Music department took to the stage and held a recital open to all featuring both vocal and instrumental performances. The Division I brass quintet closed the event with refreshments served afterwards.

After a spectacular week of arts, entertainment, and education, the historic Wieting Theatre looks poised to provide opportunities for all ages for a long time to come.
