At Monday’s Tama City Council meeting, Oak Park on McClellan was discussed. The old bandstand that has stood for decades in the park is in desperate need of repair.

Among other impairments, the roof sustained damage from a falling branch. Depending on where you are standing in/around the bandstand, you can look through a hole in the ceiling and see birds flying overhead. The council carried out a motion for repairs in the sum of $9,634.26. The bandstand was rebuilt once before in 2002 with the sponsorship of many downtown businesses, to which the building still holds their names.

The city of Tama’s party trailer and cleanup trailer was also on the agenda. These are two trailers for rent from the city for $50. It doesn’t take too much imagination to figure out what the party trailer is rented for, with a screen inside and loaded with fun games for any block ball or bash. The cleanup trailer is straightforward and filled with rakes and other supplies. A motion was carried out for the council to waive the trailer rental fees to non-profits on a case-by-case basis.

The council waived the special assessment of $440 at the location of 108 S. McClellan St. for Daniel and Debra Backen, who are approaching the Tama County Supervisors about purchasing the tax sales certificate for this property.

Resolution 23-10 The 2023 Tama Economic Development and Revitalization Plan was approved for another 5 years. Resolution 23-11 to set a public hearing for the FY 24 budget on March 20, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. was approved.

The city clerk gave an update on the downtown project, the placement of trash cans, and a quote for painting light poles. A motion was carried on to increase reimbursement of safety shoes for employees to $150.

The subjects of nuisance mowing and a possible dog park were tabled until the next meeting.
