Meet the Tama County Fair Queen contestants
Kaylea Duden
Kaylea Duden, 17, is a junior at GMG Secondary. She is the daughter of Chris and Stacey Duden of Garwin, Iowa. Kaylea’s high school activities include volleyball, basketball, softball, band, jazz band, choir, NHS, Student Council, FFA, During FFA she has served as Sentinel and Vice-President, as well as serving as student Council Social Media Representative and Secretary. Kaylea is currently working on a service project for her community. With the help of another local adult, she is bringing a small fodd pantry to Garwin. The pantry will be filled with non-perishable food items as well as some basic sanitary items. She is teaching her FFA chapter how to manage it so that they can take over after she graduates. She is also very involved in community service actiities in and out of school. In her free-time you can find Kalea working at Fareway or helping her family around their small farm. In her future, Kaylea plans to attend MCC for her nursing degree. She hopes to work as either a Labor and Delivery nurse or in some other capacity in the OB/GYN department.
Kaylynn Murty
Kaylynn Murty, 16, is the daughter of Tim and Ashley Murty of rural Tama and just finished her sophomore year maintaining a 4.0 GPA at South Tama High School. While in high school, Kaylynn’s activities have included: volleyball, yearbook, wrestling
manager and FFA. She has served as her FFA chapters reporter and will serve as the club President for the 2022/2023 school year. In her community, Kaylynn has served as Secretary, Vice President and most recently, President during her 7 years in the Toledo Tech 4-H Club and is also involved in the County Council. She is an active member in the St. Patricks Catholic Church Youth Group as well as the Mid IA Youth Beef Team of which she has served as activity director and secretary. In her spare time, Kaylynn enjoys working with cattle, babysitting, hanging out with the crew and keeping the community up to date with the most recent happenings in side the Murty Farms Cattle and Hay family business. Kaylynn’s future plans are to attend Iowa State to major in Animal Science with an emphasis in either cattle reproduction or animal nutrition.
