Goodhart wins council seat by write-in

Following the official Tama County canvass of the Nov. 2 city and school elections, winners of a Toledo City Council seat as well as seats in Vining and Elberon were announced by write-in votes.

In Toledo three seats for the city council were up for election with only two people filing for reelection. Cathy Cook and Duane Pansegrau were each reelected to four-year terms while the seat previously held by Darvin Graham was left open on the ballot.

Former council member Terry Goodhart was the write-in winner with 31 votes. Behind him was Amy Doyle with 12 and former council member Steve Vesely with nine.

In Vining all six elected members of the city government are on two-year terms with no persons filing for election by the September deadline.

Incumbent mayor Steve Rouse won reelection with 13 write-in votes. The winners of the Vining City Council seats were Merlin Rouse and Shaye Betz who each had 12 votes and Daryl Bazal, Fred Vore and Jeff Vore who had nine each.

In Elberon a city council seat to fill a vacancy was won by Nancy Braasch who had 24 write-in votes defeating Linn Snell who was on the ballot but only received eight votes.
