U.S. 30 east improvements continue in new 5-year plan

ABOVE- The spot where the current route of two-lane U.S. Highway 30 east of Tama will join with the 4-lane work underway east to near Iowa Highway 21.
Work on U.S. Highway 30 in Tama County is primarily set for 2022 in the new five-year state plan approved on Tuesday, June 8, by the Iowa Transportation Commission.
It lists culvert extension, erosion control, grading and pipe culverts on the 11.5 mile stretch identified as the Tama bypass to west of Iowa Highway 21.
In addition work in 2022 listed for west of Iowa Highway 21 to 11th Avenue drive includes new bridge, culvert replacement, grade and pavement, lighting and traffic signs.
Other projects in Tama County include U..S. 63 south of Tama- pipe culverts in 2021 and a bridge deck overlay on Wolf Creek on U.S. Highway 63 just north of Traer in 2023.
Among those on the seven-member commission are John Putney, Gladbrook, and Tom Rielly, Oskaloosa. Both previously served terms as state senator with Tama county a portion of their district.
Work on U.S. 30 in Benton County is also included. It lists from 11th Avenue Drive to the west junction of U.S. 218 on 13.9 miles of roadway is included in the 2021-2035 Iowa Highway Program.The Benton County schedule includes right of way acquisition in 2021, grade and paving in 2022 and 2023.
