Bond vote, more on Tuesday, March 3

South Tama voters will decide next Tuesday, March 3, on a trio of issues including a $20.8 million bond issue to pay for an addition to the high school in Tama to replace the middle school in Toledo. The bond question includes use of the bond proceeds to include related remodeling and site work.
In addition, voters will decide on an allowance on the property tax levy and use of state SAVE funds. Both the bond issue and tax levy require 60 percent voter approval. A simple majority is needed for approval of SAVE spending.
A total of 5,207 voters were eligible to vote in the sSouth Tama school District as of Friday morning, Feb. 21, according to Tama County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Laura Kopsa.
Also On Ballot
a proposition which allows the school district to annually levy property taxes exceeding $2.70 per $1,000 valuation but to not exceed $4.05 per $1,000 valuation. If approved this money is used to pay for bonded indebtedness principal and interest payments.

a proposition asking for approval of a revenue purpose statements which spells out a list of uses of funds received from the Iowa Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) program. This is a one-cent sales tax devoted to all schools and allocated based upon per pupil numbers. Among items allowed for use upon approval are spending on information technology, new buildings, additions, lease-purchase,remodeling, demolition work, public recreation, playgrounds, payment of principal and interest on general. obligation bonds.
