Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, for all towns in Tama County. The polls also will be open for school votes for the first time since the Iowa Legislature approved the merger of the two elections into a single day.

To be decided are some city mayoral and council seats, school board members and a $32 million bond issue proposal by the Iowa Valley Community college District aimed primarily at building maintenance.

RIGHT- Elections Administrator Karen Rohrs instructs on how to operate equipment for 82 poll workers on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Commissioner of Elections Office will handle 22 different ballots across the county for the combined school- city vote on Nov. 5.

Vote Locations The Same

While it may be confusing for some, voters will cast their ballots as they have in the past, it’s just some here will be voting in all three – city, South Tama School Board and Iowa Valley bond issue and some will not.

Races

There’s eight candidates seeking two at-large seats on the Tama City Council and a two-way race for mayor. There is no one opposed on the ballot for mayor or two council spots in Toledo nor races for council in Chelsea.

In Montour seven are seeking two council posts and in Elberon there’s a race for mayor. No one has filed for mayor or city council in Vining.

Theres’ no opposition on the ballot for the trio seeking South Tama school board positions.

Tama, Toledo city along with STC board candidates have been invited to submit information to appear next week in The News-Herald and Toledo Chronicle.

Election officials have gone through training prior to the election according to Tama County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Laura Kopsa and Elections Administrator Karen Rohrs.

A training session was again held on Tuesday at the Reinig-Toledo Civic Center in addition to two previous ones.
