Edler to seek second Iowa Senate term

State Senator Jeff Edler R-State Center

DES MOINES Senator Jeff Edler, R-State Center, has announced last week he will seek a second term in the Iowa Senate for District 36.

Currently, Senator Edler serves as the chair of the Local Government Committee and the vice chair of the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee. He also is a member of the Agriculture, Education, Human Resources, International Relations, Veterans Affairs, and Ways & Means committees.

“During the last several years, the Iowa Legislature has made huge strides in cutting taxes for hard-working Iowans and encouraging growth and opportunity in our state,” said Senator Edler. “After passing the largest income tax cut in Iowa history, there is still more to be done to make our state competitive and help our rural communities thrive.

“Four years ago, I ran on adhering to the Constitution, passing common-sense laws for a responsible budget, expanding educational opportunities, and job growth. We have made progress increasing the number of jobs in Iowa and creating an environment for growth and opportunity for all Iowans. Iowa now has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, with more job openings in the state than people to fill them. The low unemployment rate is also making wages rise faster than the rest of the nation. I believe we can do more to make our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

“In the last two years I have been heavily involved with the adult and children’s mental health initiatives and welfare reform. I am seeking another term to continue the work we have started and create an environment for all Iowans to be prosperous.”

Senator Edler graduated from West Marshall High School in State Center and Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Studies. He is self-employed as a farmer. Senator Edler served as director on the Consumers Energy Board of Directors from 2006-2018, where he presided as president of the Board of Directors from 2010-2016.

Senator Edler was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2016. He and his wife, Stephanie, have been married since 1998 and live on a farm north of State Center. They are the parents of six children: Wyatt, Whitney, Sienna, Elizabeth, Aubrey, and Sawyer.
