The new Tama United Methodist Church – now Living Faith United Methodist – was consecrated in 1969 and an observance of the occasion is planned for next Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15. Ground was broken on May 19, 1968 with this year marking the 50th year since the construction. A Dedication service was held on April 30, 1968.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community to help us celebrate the 50th anniversary of the new church building,” the Rev. Brian Oliver says.

Thecongregation moved from the former church at 6th and State streets in late February, 1968 to the new church at 309 East 11th St.

The former church building then became the Assembly of God and Meskwaki Celebration Assembly of God churches before relocating in December, 2014. The old church is now in the process of being converted to multi-family residential use.

Upon opening, the new church featured seating in the sanctuary for over 200 parishioner. It was noted in The News-Herald story reporting the new church building that the pews were “padded”
