Iowa Valley approves jobs training

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors approved an $85,000 Industrial New Jobs Training Agreement with Iowa Steel Masters LLC of Ackley when it met last week in Iowa Falls.

Iowa Steel Masters is a family-owned custom roll forming company that provides high quality steel panels, custom trim and accessories for residential, commercial and agricultural buildings. Jacque Goodman, Vice Chancellor of Continuing Education, said the company is a new economic development partner with Iowa Valley and that this training agreement is doubling the size of the business. “We are excited to see this project moving forward,” Goodman told the Board.

In other matters, the Board approved: a contract with Paycor for outsourcing payroll services, a resolution approving publication of notice and bidding procedures for the issuance of not to exceed $300,000 Industrial New Jobs Training Certificates, Spring 2017 graduation application lists for both Ellsworth Community College and Marshalltown Community College, payment of 2017-18 membership dues for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), and revisions to two Board policies.

The Board accepted three gifts designated for the MCC Utility Technician program at Marshalltown Community College, including three climbing belts given by Cahoon Sales Inc., wooden poles given by Alliant Energy-IPL, and miscellaneous items given by Mid-American Energy. In addition, Jensen Inc. donated a transmission to the Iowa Valley Grinnell Automotive Technician program and Alliant Energy donated miscellaneous items to MCC’s Natural Gas Technician program.

The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board will be Wednesday, May 10, at 3:30 pm at the District Administration building, 3702 S. Center St., Marshalltown. There is a special Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, at 3 pm in Marshalltown, followed by a 4 pm Board retreat.
