Rep. Dean Fisher (R-Garwin) unveiled his legislative proposal, the Safe at Home act, to give victims of domestic abuse, or anyone who is concerned for their safety, address confidentiality at the Secretary of State’s office at a press conference on Thursday, Feb. 5.

This Safe at Home act has been implemented in 33 other states and is designed to protect victims of domestic abuse and also provide additional security. The goal is to give these victims their safety back.

Currently the courts require a physical address for any entity that uses first class mail, but Safe at Home will change all that for the better according to Fisher. Victims may also use this address confidentiality when registering to vote.

“I will do all I can to ensure the safety and well-being of Iowans,” said Fisher. “I believe this legislation is a commonsense solution to make sure everyone is safe at home here in Iowa.”

Rep. Fisher has been working closely with Secretary of State Paul Pate (R-Cedar Rapids) as well as legislators on both sides of the aisle.
