South Tama Food Pantry is overwhelmed by demand

TAMA NEWS-HERALD-There is an urgent need for monetary and food donations at the South Tama Food Pantry, Maralyn Hotchkiss, a Food Pantry Board member reported Tuesday morning.

Illustrating the increase in need, the Food Pantry has spent $21,679 for food so far this year compared to $10,981 at this time in 2010, Hotchkiss said.

The Food Pantry provides temporary assistance of food and personal care items to families and individuals in need.

Donations of food or money may be made during Food Pantry open hours, Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Monetary donations may also be mailed to Charlene Appelgate, Food Pantry secretary, 120 E. High, Toledo, IA?52342 or Maralyn Hotchkiss, Food Pantry board member, 105 N. Green, Apt. 3, Toledo, IA?52342.

Scouts To Assist

Tama-Toledo Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be aiding the Food Pantry with your help.

They will conduct their annual Scouting for Food community service project on Saturday morning, Oct. 29.

They will be picking up from residential steps that day beginning at 9 a.m. to deliver to the South Tama Food Pantry.

Canned fruit, vegetables and meat, and boxed meals are sought. The items can’t be opened, out-dated and must be non-perishable.
