Hy-Vee buys Toledo, five other Shopko pharmacies
Hy-Vee,Inc. announced Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, it has acquired six Shopko Pharmacies including the one located in the Toledo Shopko Hometown store at 1006 South County Road (U.S. 63.)
The news release from Christina Gayman, HyVee director of public relations, did not provide additional information of the takeover other than to say the details are being finalized and the timeline of the transfers will be announced in the coming weeks.
It did note however, “(HyVee) has strong ties to rural Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa, and a vast pharmacy network to meet customers’ pharmacy needs” and “We are very excited to welcome Shopko’s customers into the Hy-Vee family. “
The other locations where Shopko pharmacies will be served by HyVee are in Emmetsburg, Mt. Ayr and Forest City in Iowa and in West Point, Neb. and St. Peter, Minn.
On Jan. 16 Shopko announced it had filed for bankruptcy with voluntary petitions for a court-supervised financial restructuring. At that time, it was also announced 11 Iowa Shopkos and a total of 105 company stores throughout the midwest, south and western states would be closed.
The Toledo store was not among them.
Shopko took over the Toledo store from Pamida in October, 2012. A merger of the two companies was announced in February of that year.
The store was orignally opened in 1968 as Gibson’s Discount Store.
