Members of the Mid-Iowa Youth Beef Team (MIYBT) have continued to educate, advocate, and earn accolades in recent months. The Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation recognized 27 members at the 2018 Iowa State Fair for their agvocacy (advocating for agriculture) work. The members had completed educational trainings, conducted multiple beef promotions, coordinated and fed over 100 Marshalltown Relief Workers following the summer tornado, published beef information on their Facebook page, and many other promotional activities.

The team includes members from Tama, Benton, Hardin and Marshall counties. Members advance their beef education with guest speakers at the team’s monthly meetings and attending other workshops/conferences. On Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, 14 members attended the 2018 ISU Extension “Beef Blast” at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center on the Iowa State University campus in Ames. Students were trained by our past MIYBT President, Jake Hlas, on becoming a strong advocate. Other training sessions included: Herd Health, Meat Quality, and Breed Selection.

The 2018 meeting schedule finalized with the team’s annual family potluck on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018. Members shared multiple educational displays for the team’s guests to view and enjoy. Six senior members provided dinner entertainment with their presentations regarding beef by-products, beef treatment methods and the national and state check-off programs.
