Veterinary Feed Directive meeting is set for Oct. 25
Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach in Tama County will be hosting an information meeting on the new Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.
Tama County residents that raise livestock, including: swine, beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats, and bees, are encouraged to attend the meeting.
On January 1. 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will implement the VFD which includes new rules regarding the use of antibiotics in the livestock.
These rules will impact Iowa farmers, as well as veterinarians and feed providers. This meeting will help attendees learn about the roles and responsibilities of all involved parties.
The new rules will alter how antibiotics are purchased and used in livestock production and outline the records that will be required.
The event will be held at the Reinig-Toledo Civic Center located at 1007 Prospect Drive, Toledo, Iowa. The event is free of charge.
