Recognizing the downtown rebuilding efforts of Ed and Marty Hardon, the Tama City council agreed Monday night to add $50,000 to the loan amount available for downtown revitalization bring the total to $200,000.

The raise does await amending the revitalization program which is expected to take place at the April 4 council meeting.

Ed Hardon had requested the hike during the March 7 council meeting reporting he had purchased an additional two downtown buildings at 115 and 117 West 3rd street.

He told the council he planned to invest $50,000 on the pair of buildings to modernize second floor apartments and for other improvements.

The Hardons currently are the sole borrowers of the revitalization revolving funds at a total of $141,000 according to City clerk Judy Welch.

At the last council meeting Hardon told they had invested $1.7 million in downtown Tama over he past 10 years and as a result have 17 new apartments and more than one half dozen business and offices in rental space.
