Spahn and Rose closes doors in Tama

Spahn and Rose Lumber Company closed in Tama on Monday ending 86 years in business here.

In an email response to The News-Herald, John P. Hannan, President & CEO of Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. confirmed the closing.

He shared a letter which is being mailed to the Tama customer base which says, in part, “This decision was made after much consideration” by way of explanation of the closing.

The lumber yard and retail store occupy a series of buildings on both sides of U.S. Highway 63 (South State Street) adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad main line.

There was no word on the future status of the Tama employees.
