What to know from Monday’s Toledo city council meeting
on January 9th, 2023
The Mayor added the Times-Republican to the city’s official newspapers.
Resolution #2023-01, to amend the Fiscal Year 2023 annual budget, was approved.
Ordinance #2023-01 was approved, pertaining to vacating alleys and streets encompassing the soon-to-be STC middle school. Including all streets & alleys between & within Block 1 & 2, Kinne’s Addition-Toledo, and that part of East Street that is East & adjacent to Lots 11 & 12, Block 1 Kinne’s Addition-Toledo and East & adjacent to Lot 7, Block 2 Kinne’s Addition-Toledo and all of E. Harrison Street North & adjacent to Block 1 Kinne’s Addition-Toledo and continuing East 630′ to Elm Street. This part of E. Harrison is also North & adjacent to Lot 10 of the Auditor’s Plat of the East Half of the Northeast Quarter of Section 22, Township 83, North Range 15, West of the 5th PM, in Tama County. Bonded on the West by Church Street and on the East by Elm Street.
The Council approved Resolution #2023-02 after waving the second and third readings. For the purpose of vacating alleys and streets in conjunction with the demolition and renovation of the former Iowa Juvenile Home property in accordance with Ordinance 2023-01.
A public hearing will be held on Jan. 23 for the maximum property tax dollar levy.
The Council approved the payment of the progress bill for the IJH Juvenile Center demolition with a balance of $299,973.90.
The police wage scale was increased by 5% for the Fiscal Year 2023, starting July 1, to include the Lieutenant.
Public Works reported that Project Aware, an all-volunteer watershed awareness river expedition, and the state’s largest river cleanup event, could potentially come to Toledo to help clean up the Iowa River from July 9-12.
The Council approved the temporary EMS hire at $18 per hour with no more than 36 hours per week.
Claims totalling $778,491.87 from 12/13 through 12/27/2022 were approved.
