A bake sale and breakfast to benefit Billy Murphy who is battling cancer is Sunday at the Tama American Legion.

Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee are on the menu for a free-will donation. Friends and local businesses are sponsoring the event.

Murphy, 42, Toledo, has been battling cancer for 10 years and has undergone five surgeries. Cancer has now spread to his bones. If he must undergo Chemotherapy, he will need a kidney transplant having lost one kidney already due to previous cancer treatment.

He had been employed at Roy’s Auto, Tama, until his recent illness.

Murphy is scheduled to go to a Rochester, Minn. hospital on Oct. 19 for further examination.
