Dear Governor Branstad:

I formally request that you place Commandant David Worley of the Iowa Veterans Home on administrative leave pending a full investigation of allegations made by current and former employees.

Because there are serious allegations of intimidation, harassment and sexual harassment, I believe that keeping Mr. Worley in his current post would put a cloud over any investigation. Many of the complainants say they fear that they would be fired, harassed or physically harmed if publicly complained or even talked privately with investigators.

If Mr. Worley is placed on leave, I am confident that newly appointed COO Jodi Tymeson could provide the necessary administrative leadership for the IVH until the investigation is completed.

I will be asking for the investigations to continue through the Senate Oversight Committee. I will be having meeting locally with employees at all levels to speak with local law enforcement and the Marshall County Attorney’s Office.

I thank you for your consideration of my request. I believe this request is reasonable and prudent to get to the bottom of the accusations while safeguarding potential victims.
