Monument to fallen Iowa submarine veterans to be dedicated Sept. 17
tamatoledonews.com Van Meter – Over 160 Iowans lost their lives while serving on submarines between 1939 and 1977. On Saturday, September 17, 2011 a monument honoring those Iowans that perished in the line of duty serving on submarines during Pre-World War II, World War II and Post-World War II will be dedicated at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. The monument, sponsored by the United Submarine Veterans, Inc. and the Submarine Veterans of WWII, will honor men from Iowa’s smallest to largest communities; from Marshalltown and Chariton, to Cedar Rapids and Council Bluffs.
Submarine Veterans, Inc. and Submarine Veterans of WWII invite family and friends to a reception following the monument dedication at Rubes Steak House in Waukee.
