TRAER- Chelsea Savings Bank plans to open a location in Traer in early October. The bank currently has branches in Chelsea, Clutier and Van Horne. The Traer office will be in the vacant building formerly occupied by Regions Bank . – Traer Star-Clipper

GLADBROOK- A fund raising event is set for Saturday, Sept. 18, from 3-7 p.m. at the Gladbrook American Legion for Barb Raum Guillory. She was undergoing cancer treatment and suffered a stroke at the end of July. She is a 1978 Gladbrook High graduate and has been self employed as Barb Becker Painting, Papering and Drywall in Tama, Benton and Linn counites for the past 20 years. TRAER- A tavern break-in in Traer in late August netted thieves money and a Bose itunes touch jukebox. The back door of the Wind Up Lounge in downtown Traer was forced to gain entry. Owners Cathy and Darin Jacobs reported hundreds of dollars lost when the cash boxes on two gambling machines were forced open and a tip jar on the counter with some $400 inside was taken. A police scanner and a GPS unit were also missing. – Traer Star Clipper

IOWA CITY- “I’ve handled all kinds of cases before and I’m familiar with the motions and making rulings. There are others I haven’t dealt with but I enjoy that. The job is a lot of listening,” new District Court Judge Paul Miller, Iowa City, said last week. Miller replaced 6th District Chief Judge David Remley on July 9, The 6th Judicial District includes Tama, Benton, Johnson, Linn, Iowa and Jones counties. – Cedar Rapids Gazette

GRUNDY CENTER- “Iowa’s original barn quit project” – The Barn Quilts of Grundy County and Alliant Energy have partnered to add six new quilt blocks in rural Grundy County. “The addition of quilt blocks each year in Grundy County is a great achievement. It goes to show that this agri-tourism project has impacted and joined together so many in our Barn Quilt family,” commented Kelly Riskedal, the project coordinator. – The Grundy Register

IOWA FALLS- Boot Hill Auto Recycling, Iowa Falls, has been assessed a $3,500 penalty by the Iowa department of Natural Resources. The fine is for open burning, open dumping and waste water violations. – Iowa Falls Times Citizen

TRAER- Champion Enterprises, a plumbing and heating contracting business, is now occupying the former Knoop Implement Building on U.S. 63 north of Traer. Owners Josh Seda and Jared Hasselman have been in business for five years. – Traer Star-Clipper
