TOLEDO CHRONICLE – Des Moines (Special) -The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced the release of A Plan to Improve the Health of Iowans with Asthma, 2010-2015. According to the most recent Health in Iowa report, more than 200,000 Iowans now have asthma, of which 148,000 are adults

The plan, developed in conjunction with the Iowa Asthma Coalition and led by the American Lung Association in Iowa, is a tool that identifies top priorities and strategies for asthma management.

The Iowa Asthma Plan is updated every five years. Highlights of asthma programs that have been implemented as a result of previous plans include an asthma management training curriculum for child care providers, school nurses and heath care consultants; the University of Iowa Asthma Center Conference; Athletes & Asthma training for coaches, athletic trainers, school personnel and nurses; and a camp for children with asthma.
