State Rep. Lance Horbach

TAMA NEWS-HERALD – The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association in West Branch awarded the fourth annual Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award to State Representative Lance Horbach (R, Tama) and State Senator Daryl Beall (D, Fort Dodge).

The presentation took place at the Iowa State Capitol on March 24. Former winners Representative Jeff Kaufmann (R, Wilton) and Senator John Kibbie (D, Palo Alto) announced the winners in their respective chambers.

The award commemorates Iowa native Herbert Hoover, 31st president of the United States, and honors his unwavering commitment to public service and volunteerism.

The name is taken from a 1948 speech in which Hoover said, “Let us remember that the great human advances have not been brought about by distinctly mediocre men and women. They were brought about by distinctly uncommon people with vital sparks of leadership.”

Horbach and Beall were chosen for their “sparks of leadership.”

Representative Horbach demonstrates commitment to his constituents, both on an individual basis and in his service on several committees, including labor, economic growth and the judiciary.

He is well known for the personal touch he brings to his position, especially in his hospitality to his district residents and to anyone visiting the Iowa Capitol.

He has particular interest in the Toledo Juvenile Home and its residents, working tirelessly to help them gain an education as a key role in their futures.

According to his nominators, Representative Lance Horbach “has set examples of true leadership: compassion, passion/dedication, honor, integrity, generosity, and given great meaning to the role of public servant as an Iowa legislator.”

Senator Beall represents District 25 in Calhoun, Greene and Webster Counties. A former teacher, journalist and business man, he is serving his second term in the Senate.
