2009 Tax Refund to

Child Abuse Prevention

As tax season is here, residents are urged to donate a portion of their 2009 tax refund to help prevent child abuse in our community. Every two years, the Iowa Legislature determines the four beneficiaries that will be listed as income tax checkoffs on state income tax forms. Child abuse prevention has been designated as a beneficiary for the 2008 and 2009 tax years; the proceeds will specifically support local prevention efforts via the Iowa Child Abuse Prevention Program.

Child Abuse Prevention Services, a Marshalltown-based non-profit organization, annually receives grant funds from the Iowa Child Abuse Prevention Program administered by Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. Funds from this source provide child abuse prevention programming in Tama, Hardin and Marshall counties.

“Last year alone, over 6400 children were served by Child Abuse Prevention Services’ Building Healthy Families, Crisis Child Care and Sexual Abuse Prevention programs,” said Jana Enfield, executive director of Child Abuse Prevention Services. “By checking off child abuse on 2009 state income tax forms, residents can truly make a difference in the lives of these children by ensuring the continued support of child abuse prevention efforts in Marshall, Hardin, and Tama counties.”
