TAMA NEWS-HERALD (SPECIAL) – Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center (MMSC) has announced the retirement of CEO Rob Cooper for health related reasons. Rob’s 19 years at MMSC make him the longest presently serving hospital CEO in Iowa. Rob has been an integral part of many improvements at the hospital, including the development of a cardiac catheterization program. Rob’s retirement will be effective as of January 1, 2010. “I am honored to have been able to spend such a significant portion of my career at MMSC. I know the hospital is well poised to move into the future and I will be there as much as possible to help make the transition proceed as easily as possible,” said Rob Cooper. Rob will be available to provide consulting services to MMSC as needed.

Cooper’s work was praised in a statement released this afternoon by Bob Stahlin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, “MMSC has enjoyed a tremendous period of growth under Rob’s leadership. His contributions have had a dramatic affect on improving the healthcare available to our community. Our Board, along with physicians and employees wish to thank Rob for his vision, commitment and dedication to MMSC, its affiliated clinics and to our community. His innovation and commitment to high quality, low-cost, patient-centered care will carry on through our employees, our physicians and our Mission,” said Stahlin.

MMSC has formed a committee to search for a new CEO and hopes to have Cooper’s replacement named by January 1, 2010.

MMSC is a 125 bed general medical surgical hospital serving the residents of Marshall, Tama and Grundy counties. The hospital is accredited by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
