Belle Plaine- Toledo Police officer Ben Engle has accepted a part-time position with the Belle Plaine Police Force. He is a full-tim,e officer on the Toledo department and will fill in when needed and available in Belle Plaine. Tama County deputy sheriff Wes Sebetka also works part-time for Belle Plaine Police. -The Star Press Union

Grinnell- The former DeLong sportswear retail shop downtown and manufacturing site on the west side of the city are reported to have been leased by the Daden Group, a Coralville-based company which is also in the sportswear business. The company sells licensed apparel in partnership with colleges, high school, pro sports and leagues. Operations are expected to begin in a month or two. DeLong, a company with a 150-year history, went out of business in April. -Grinnell Herald-Register

Marengo- Marengo Publishing has announced it is consolidating operations with The Des Moines Register and will end printing operations on Sept. 28 in Marengo. The Star Press Union (Belle Plaine, southern Benton County), Marengo Pioneer Republican and Poweshiek County CR, are among newspapers and publications which will then be printed in Des Moines. A total of eight full-time press and 19 part-time positions in Marengo and Grinnell are being eliminated as a result. -Marengo Pioneer Republican

Traer-Clutier- North Tama School Board members elected on Sept. 8 included Dave Stuart and Gretchen Pargeon, unopposed; District 3 – Trisha Kennedy defeated Dan Schmitt 153-127; District 4- Judy Robb defeated Stacey Schmitt 187-100. -Traer Star Clipper

Gladbrook- Construction is in full swing for a new day care center – The Crayon Corner Learning Center. The construction is funded by the City of Gladbrook and Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District. A fund drive to pay for furnishings and playground equipment has a $200,000 goal. – Northern Sun Print

Grundy Center- Todd Rickert recently received a five-year service award for his work as Grundy County Central Point of Coordination administrator and case management director for the Grundy County Mental Health Department. Rickert is also the Tama County CPC administrator. – Reinbeck Courier

Dysart-A new full-line lumberyard, CnC Lumber and Supplies has opened at 605 Wilson in Dysart. Mike Wilkerson brings 30 years lumber business experience as manager. The new business is located where the Farmers Lumber Company was located. That century-old business closed earlier this year. – Dysart Reporter & The Chronicle
