New sign on U.S. 30.

Reader John M., Toledo, says the new sign on U.S. 30 at the city park on the west side is not correct. He says the park has never officially been named “Toledo Heights City Park” and when the issue was before the council several years ago, any naming of the park was tabled. He says the sign would imply to visitors there is a city named “Toledo Heights” when the area is a part of the City of Toledo.

Mr. Herald Chronicle asked Mayor Pam Wood and City Clerk Carolyn Brownfield about the new sign. Mayor Wood explained the park is commonly referred to as Toledo Heights Park so the sign was ordered with that description. It replaced a Toledo welcome sign which was damaged in a storm in the same location.

City Clerk Brownfield said the sign was purchased from Iowa Prison Industries at a cost of $836.

The sign was paid for by the Toledo Economic Development organization.
