Trojan tennis competes at the STC triangular

On Monday, South Tama County High School hosted the annual STC triangular tennis competition. The teams competing in these matches included the Marion Wolves, Saydel Eagles, and the home Trojans.

In the first match of the day the Trojans took on the Marion Wolves. In the position 1 singles match senior Kaden Timm faced off against Jackson Anderson of Marion. The match was tight throughout as both athletes went back and forth exchanging points but in the end Timm pulled away with his consistent baseline game and willingness to venture to the net.

Timm won the position 1 singles match with a score of 10-7. In the other singles matches Marion proved to be too strong for the Trojans. Marion’s Garrett Baxa won the position 2 singles match against Trojan senior Braydon Thompson 10-0 and Joey Beachel of Marion won the position 3 match against Trojan freshman Micheal Henry 10-0. Marion would go on to defeat the Trojans in all doubles matches too, as they took the 8-1 overall team win over South Tama.

In the final match of the meet the Trojans faced off against the Saydel Eagles. Timm continued his success from earlier into his next position 1 singles match against Saydel’s Austin Schnell, as took the dominant 8-3 victory.

Senior Braydon Thompson also competed well but fell just short of a win in his position 2 singles match against Jake Buell of Saydel, Buell took the win over Thompson 8-4. Later on in the position 5 singles match South Tama’s Josiah Houghton defeated Saydel’s William Gates with a final score of 8-5. In the end, Saydel would go on to win all the doubles matches against the Trojans and accomplish the 7-2 victory.

South Tama tennis will be back competing again on April 22 at home against the Union Knights as they look to continue their successful start to the season.
