SATUCI Celebrates National Recovery Month

“Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community”

In celebration of Iowans on the road to recovery, this National Recovery Month, the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa (SATUCI) continues its commitment to helping prevent substance use disorder, supporting those who are still struggling, and providing people in recovery with extended support and resources they need to succeed.

SATUCI has been providing substance use treatment, mental health counseling, and prevention services for over 40 years in Marshalltown, with outreach offices in Tama, Poweshiek, and Hardin Counties. SATUCI’s home office is at 9 North 4th Avenue, where it has been for the past four decades. SANTUCCI continues to offer counseling services for substance abuse disorders, mental health treatment, individual sessions, and support groups, as well as gambling use disorders and prevention services for adolescents and adults.

Prevention services offer a variety of educational programs and activities to help youth, schools, organizations, workplaces, and communities understand and work on the issues connected to the underage use and abuse of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. SATUCI offers monthly DUI education classes to satisfy the DOT requirements for any individual charged with an OWI. Treatment services include assessment, crisis intervention, education, individual and group counseling, and referral to residential treatment when identified.

When individuals and families recover from substance use disorder, our communities become stronger and more resilient. Still, we recognize that the path to full recovery can be long and demanding. For many struggling with untreated addiction and mental health issues, securing reliable housing and long-term employment can be challenging. Restoring relationships can take time, and treatment and recovery services can be expensive and hard to find. These obstacles are amplified for underserved communities in our 4 County area, which includes rural communities, Native American, African American, and Latino communities.

SATUCI wants to ensure that achieving and sustaining recovery is within reach for every person and that everyone has equal access to economic mobility, improved health, and expanded community resources. These vital support networks allow people to balance healing with their every day responsibilities to lead a productive and fulfilling life.
