COLO — The Meskwaki Settlement School’s cross country team traveled to Zearing on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to run at the Colo-NESCO cross country invite. Both the boys and girls teams finished in fourth place overall, with the programs earning three top-ten finishes individually.

Sophomore Bree Scabbyrobe (21:13) and freshman Jaslynn Hill (22:27) finished 6th and 10th respectively. Senior Dorothy Bear (11th, 22:31), freshman Jayla Keahna (24th, 24:21), sophomore Martha Blackcloud (44th, 28:41), and junior Kaelonna Kahler (47th, 29:15) also ran for the Warriors. MSS (83 points) finished in 4th place, behind Colfax-Mingo (83), North Tama (65), and champion Collins-Maxwell (37).

For the boy Warriors, freshman Jesse Bear crossed the finish line in seventh place, with a personal-best time of 17:50. Bear bettered his personal-best time by about a minute and a half, after he ran his previous mark of 19:21 the night before at the South Tama Invite. Joining Bear were seven other MSS runners to finish: junior Jarvis Bear (15th, 18:53), junior Jaymison Hill (21st, 19:42), freshman Ryson Davenport (38th, 21:00), junior Hepa Azure (59th, 23:05), sophomore Abram Wanatee (68th, 24:55), sophomore Markelle Wabaunasee (70th, 26:01), and sophomore Roman Tricky (71st, 27:10). The Warriors (114 points) finished in fourth place as a team, behind BGM (72), South Hamilton (68), and champion Ankeny Christian (28).

Up next for the MSS runners is the Williamsburg Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Following that, they will travel to the North Polk Invite on Monday, Oct. 5.
